Medical Research Ethics Committee NedMec
The Medical Research Ethics Committee (MREC) NedMec is a recognized medical research ethics committee to which the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, the Princess Máxima Center for pediatric oncology and the UMC Utrecht are affiliated. This MREC was created after the merger of the MREC Utrecht and the MREC Antoni van Leeuwenhoek on 1-1-2022.
From 12 September 2022, the METC NedMec can be reached by email via metc@nedmec.nl and susar@nedmec.nl.
Through its national scope, the MREC NedMec reviews not only for researchers at its member institutions, but also for various other researchers and (government) institutions in the health care sector.
The committee draws on broad expertise, with experienced members from the various disciplines. It is therefore able to swiftly and effectively review all types of medical research, including the most complex trials. In addition, MREC NedMec has specific expertise and a unique position in the area of reviewing research into (pediatric) oncology, oncological drug research and research involving children.
Number of studies reviewed in 2021:
MREC Utrecht | MREC Antoni van Leeuwenhoek | Total | |
---|---|---|---|
Total number of studies | 138 | 55 | 193 |
Studies with medicinal products | 50 | 27 | 77 |
Studies with medical devices | 26 | 12 | 38 |
The MREC NedMec has three chambers, each with its own specialty: Medicinal Products (G), Oncology (O) and All-round (A). Each of the three affiliated institutions participates in these chambers with committee members from the various disciplines who have specific expertise in these areas. This ensures the quality and independence of the review. Each chamber meets every other week to keep the review times as short as possible.
On this site you will find information on review according to the Medical Research Involving Human Subjects Act (WMO), submitting a research file to the MREC NedMec and related issues.
